GM-Delphi Legal Services Update

Greetings,

As you are aware, in August of 2017 the UAW took exception to GM’s position that certain retirees of Delphi were not eligible for the UAW-FCA-Ford-General Motors Legal Services Plan.

I am happy to report that the parties have agreed that former GM/Delphi workers who are covered under the Benefit Guarantee and/or “checked the box” in the 2006 Special Attrition Program who receive pension benefits under the General Motors Hourly-Rate Employees Pension Plan are now eligible for benefits under the legal services program. Surviving spouses of these retired workers who receive pension benefits under the General Motors Hourly-Rate Employees Pension Plan are also eligible.   Please note that individuals receiving a deferred vested pension are not eligible.

To open a case with the Plan, members must call 800-482-7700.  A Plan representative will check eligibility, explain what coverage is available and will assign an attorney to their case.

Thank you for your patience as we pursued this matter.

In Solidarity,

Cindy

Profit Sharing FAQ

When will profit sharing be paid out?

On February 23, 2018 for eligible active hourly employees and March 23, 2018 for eligible retirees who had compensated hours in 2017.

How much will profit sharing payments be?

Maximum payment up to $11,750.

How many compensated hours did I have to accrue in the 2017 calendar year to receive the maximum payment?

1,850 compensated hours.

If I have more than 1850 compensated hours will I receive more than the maximum profit sharing payout?

No, $11,750 is the maximum profit sharing payout you can receive for 2017.

What if I have less than 1850 compensated hours, how much profit sharing will I receive?

Eligible hourly employees who accrued less than 1,850 compensated hours will receive a pro-rated share based on the number of accrued compensated hours.

What is the formula used to calculate the amount of profit sharing I should receive?

Profit sharing amount payable is calculated by dividing an employee’s compensated hours by 1850 and multiplying the result by the maximum profit sharing amount payable for the Plan year.

For example, an eligible hourly employee with 1500 compensated hours the calculation would work as follows:   (1500 ÷ 1850) X 11,750 = $9,527.03.

If Im on layoff will I have to report my profit sharing payment as earnings to the State in which Im receiving Unemployment Benefits?

As a general rule, members should declare their profit sharing payment when they file for unemployment.

Whom can I contact for additional information regarding Profit Sharing?

Contact your Local Union Benefit Representative.

Greetings:

We have some exciting improvements to share regarding the UAW-GM Tuition Assistance Plan.  In 2018, UAW-GM will be offering a new web-based system that will process tuition benefit requests and make it easier for you to receive approvals and reimbursements. UAW-GM has partnered with EdAssist® to implement the program.

Benefits of the New Tuition Reimbursement Program

Discounted Tuition & Fees at more than 220 schools

Faster and easier tuition reimbursement system

Convenient document upload functionality

Real time access to submit coursework

Automated approval process

E-mail notifications alert to   application status

Resources for adult learners

Live technical customer service support from 8:00am – 8:00pm EST

This new program will be available on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. With this program change, the current tuition reimbursement will be in a blackout period (a pause in processing) from February 1 – February 19, 2018. If at that point you are current on your vouchers and/or reimbursements, no actions need to be taken. When the new program goes live, applications that have not received vouchers and/or reimbursements will need to reapply in the new system. Based on the timing of this switchover, we anticipate only a small volume that will need to reapply and we apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

There will be a full system tutorial and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) available once the system is live. Thank you for your patience as we transition to this great new program.

Sincerely,
