GM members who currently have an open Area Hire, Extended Area Hire or a Return to Former Community Application who wish to transfer to another plant must enter a new application in the Employee Placement System, no matter how recently they submitted their current application.
You will first have to cancel your current application, but you will be able to immediately resubmit your application. This will prevent the NEPC from deleting your application during the annual purge of the system and will ensure you will not miss the opportunity you’re waiting for to transfer when it arises.

Message from Cindy Estrada and Scott Sandefur
Dear UAW-GM Team Members,
During our 2015 National Contract Negotiations, we agreed to annually recognize the team for achieving our target for model year to date Incidents per Thousand Vehicles (IPTV) performance. We are pleased to announce that eligible UAW-GM team members will be receiving a $500 bonus in your December 8, 2017 paycheck for delivering on our IPTV target.
Our customers win when we deliver top quality vehicles to market. No matter where you work – assembly, stamping, propulsion, components, engineering support services or service parts – you play an important role in keeping the customer at the center of everything we do.
With numerous launches and multiple shifts in our production schedules, it hasn’t been easy to maintain our high quality standards. We believe our success is due to your engagement and our strong partnership in improving our execution of the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) with a focus on the achievement of Built in Quality (BIQ) Level IV certification at every plant which translates to a higher quality vehicle for our customers.
In 2018, we expect to face many of the same challenges – changes in consumer preference, high profile launches and intense competition. Together, we can tackle these challenges and help GM Manufacturing become the quality benchmark for the global auto industry.
Thanks for your many contributions to our success and congratulations on achieving this quality target.
Cindy Estrada Scott Sandefur

In accordance with the provisions of the UAW-GM National Agreement and in order to better understand employee’s interest in transfer opportunities, improve the Employee Placement Systems performance and enhance process efficiency, the National Parties have agreed to an Employee Placement System “Refresh” (closure) of all open Area Hire, Extended Area Hire and Return to Former Community Employee Placement System Applications effective December 31st, of each calendar year.
Employees currently listed on open plant requisitions will not be removed from those lists as a result of this action. They will remain on those lists until the actual requisition is closed.
Employees who currently have an open Area Hire, Extended Area Hire or a Return to Former Community Application who wish to transfer to another plant must enter a new application in the Employee Placement System.
Beginning December 1st, of each calendar year, the Employee Placement System will be available for you to enter your new application. Plant Requisitions processed on or after December 31st will take into account only the new open applications filed on or after December 1st in the Employee Placement System.
Employees who apply will receive jobs offers in accordance with the provisions of the 2015 National Agreement. Employees will also continue to be allowed to select multiple plants on the same Area Hire, Extended Area Hire and Return to Former Community Application.
Please note that any time you receive a job offer to another location, whether you choose to accept or decline a job offer, all of your applications on file will be closed. As a result, you will have to enter new applications identifying all the plants you would like to transfer to in the Employee Placement System if you have interest in future transfer opportunities to other plants.
Please contact the UAW Placement Department at (313) 324-5000 if you have any questions.
Veterans’ Day is a special day to recognize the brave men and women who served our country. Veterans are true heroes who put their lives on the line to defend the very freedom we enjoy today. To all our UAW Veteran members, I express profound gratitude to you, your commitment to serve your country and your commitment to make the best products in the same country you so greatly served.
Veterans’ Day is only celebrated one day of the year, however, our commitment to veterans must be strong each and every day. Our UAW Veterans’ Committee works diligently in our local and regions to work with our Veterans to assure these heroes have the best benefits available to them. Although we could never serve the Veteran in the same way they have served us, we can make sure they are taken care of when they come home.
“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” ~Arthur Ashe. Thank you for serving our country. We are forever indebted to you!
Happy Veterans Day,

Leadership Education and Development
LEAD is a program developed to review issues and information important for the security and future of all UAW-GM members and their families. The goal of LEAD is to work together to build upon the strengths of your local union and minimize any threats.
Another goal of LEAD is to strengthen communication, education and solidarity in our workplace. This is done by using the concepts of strategic planning to define a long-term vision, set immediate goals, develop work plans to achieve these goals and agree upon a system of continuous improvement.
